Spring Washer
Spring washers (DIN 127) are split helical rings that exert continuous axial preload when compressed, resisting fastener loosening from vibration and thermal cycling. Manufactured from hardened spring steel or stainless steel.

Benefits
#
Spring washers address the persistent engineering problem of fastener loosening caused by vibration, thermal cycling, and joint settlement. When compressed between the fastener and the substrate, the helical split generates a continuous spring force that maintains axial preload in the bolted joint. This preload compensates for minor relaxation, creep, and embedment that occur over time, keeping clamp force above the critical threshold. Spring washers are particularly effective in moderate-vibration environments such as automotive chassis assemblies, machinery, and electrical panel mounting. They are low-cost, require no special installation tools, and can be reused in non-critical applications. For joints subject to severe dynamic loading, they are often paired with other locking methods or replaced by wedge-locking systems.
Common Applications
#
Spring washers are specified in bolted joints where vibration, shock, or thermal expansion can cause fastener rotation and clamp loss.
- Automotive engine and chassis assemblies
- Heavy machinery and agricultural equipment
- Structural steel connections
- Railway track components and railcar assemblies
- Electrical panel and switchgear mounting
- Pump and compressor assemblies
- Conveyor systems
- Furniture and ready-to-assemble products
